Mini-Update (8/12/17): Back To School, Writer’s Block & Whatnot

Greetings peeps! What’s new in the world of you?

It’s been quite a while since my last update, and since I’ve been kinda quiet that past couple of weeks, I figured I’d just make one now. Sorry again for not a lot of content coming in lately, but I’ve just been in a weird funk when it comes to ideas for blogging. After completely skipping out on Comic Con posts for the first time in 3 years, I’ve just been having trouble finding something to talk about. I don’t know why, either. I guess nothing in the news has caught my attention just yet, and that has affected my posting schedule. So, I appreciate you guys’ patience as I get my head back in the blogging game. At least while I can. Continue reading Mini-Update (8/12/17): Back To School, Writer’s Block & Whatnot

Mini-Update (7/14/16): Thank You! (The Ranting SBox’s 2 Year Anniversary)

Blog logo

Greetings peeps!

Today is July 14, 2016, a day above any other at least for me. As of today, I have been blogging with WordPress for two whole years. Holy shit! I guess my blog isn’t as new as I thought, at least not anymore. Had this blog been a baby, it would be walking and talking by now, pointing at crap, and apparently starting to grow molars. My blog has molars! I’m the happiest blogger alive! Continue reading Mini-Update (7/14/16): Thank You! (The Ranting SBox’s 2 Year Anniversary)

Mini-Update: New Album Review Coming Soon

Today marks the 16th anniversary of the Marshall Mathers LP. I wanted to commemorate that with a tribute review similar to the Innuendo album review from February. The post has been in development for a couple weeks, but in order to make the post as good as it can be, I need more time. It’s one of my favorite albums, and I wanted to do it justice; not just for me, but for everyone who wanted more reviews such as that one.

So, I’ll be working on that for the rest of today, hoping to have it done between tomorrow and Wednesday. I can’t wait to share it with you guys once it’s done.

Update (9/3/15): Where I’m at right now & Whatnot

Greetings peeps!

Today I come to you from my college library- which I’m happy to report can access Worpress. It’s been a while since I posted anything, so I wanted to let you know where I’m at in terms of blogging, what I’m up to, and how I’ll be handling the next couple of months. This should be a quickie.

For those who don’t know, I’m a first-year college student studying for a bachelor’s degree in computer science. This is the reason you’re seeing barely any new posts between August and now. I want to apologize for that outright. However, I am by no means disappearing from the site. In fact, I still have plenty of ideas for posts. All I have to do is find the time.

I’ve been working on a review for Straight Outta Compton for a week and a half. I’m hoping that, if I can make it look right, it’ll be up this weekend. I have a draft meant for the Random section of my blog that I also wish to complete. I want to make a prediction post for Supernatural Season 2, and a Season 1 review of Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. And a relatively new idea I have is another Newcomer Chronicle post. Yeah, remember when I said I’d post a second one as soon as I’m able to? Now I can, and the subject of that post will be Kingdom Hearts.

There’s a lot of things I want to do and unfortunately not much time to do it. I think what’s killing my time the most are the readings. You read a lot in college, and I’m learning that the hard way. This could or could not intensify in the coming weeks, but I will be making the effort to make posts for you guys as often as I can. Just know that it won’t be as often as I used to.

I’ll try to post something for you guys during the weekend. No promises since my Labor Day weekend will be busy, but I’ll see what I can do. Thanks so much for your patience and support!

Update: Back to School Schedule

Greetings peeps!

I should’ve made this post earlier, but I wanted to make this announcement before I forgot to do so again.

For those of you who may have guessed otherwise, I’m 18 years old. I’ve recently graduated high school and have been on summer break since May 6th. I’m currently enrolled full-time to a university. I’ll be studying for a bachelor’s degree in computer science and my first day will be Monday, August 24th.

For those who have been following me for a while, you’ll know that this means I will be slowing down the amount of content posted on this blog until such time as a break occurs. And yeah, that is what’s happening for now, but seeing as this is college now, there are some factors I wish to discuss with you. I just might be able to keep the regular flow after all.

I have received my schedule for the first semester months ago. While it’s not the most desirable schedule in the world, it’s decent. I have noticed that I’ll have a lot of time on my hands still. I won’t reveal my whole schedule, but I will give you time-frames.

  • Mondays I have classes from 8 AM to 1 PM. I have a two hour gap between my first class and my second class.
  • Tuesdays I have classes from 2PM to 6PM. I have a two hour gap between the two classes.
  • Thursdays I have a similar class schedule to Tuesday, but no gap between classes (or at least not as much of a gap).
  • Wednesdays and Fridays I have one class from 8 AM to 9 AM.
  • I have one online class with no specific timing.

I’m mentioning gaps because that is potential blogging time for me. At least it gives me enough time to start a draft and finish it when I get home. I’m not promising this will be what I’ll do in that time, but it’s a start.

The major obstacle will be schoolwork and homework. As I’ve been told, college is a lot more intensive than high school. So, I may use that time to work on assignments, do school activities, or satisfy community service hours (because I have those still). More importantly, I may use that time to do my online class. In fact, I see myself trying to complete the class as soon as possible so it’s out of the way.

School will of course be my first priority, since I want to pass and learn. So, whether I’ll have the time or not is something to be seen.

For now, I’ll say this: From August 24th to December 14th, their will be approximately 1 post per two weeks. I’m placing it a little slower this year just to be safe and because I’ve currently been posting once per week this summer. So, just a heads up.

This leaves us with a week and a half to play with and finish anything I wanted to. Currently I have 4 posts I want to do before school starts. They include prediction posts for the new season of Big Bang Theory and Supernatural. I’ve been waiting to post a First Impressions post for the new FX show Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. The last one is a random post I started a week ago. I have other ideas like finishing the 2014 Movie Countdown, but I’ll save those for later. I’ll try to get the ones I mentioned up as soon as I can.

Why I’m No Longer Making an Anniversary Post

Greetings peeps!

So, if you’ve been following my posts as of late, you’d know I recently celebrated the 1 year anniversary of this blog. I wasn’t able to give a proper, special post at the time since I just came back from a vacation at the time, but I did make a post simply to thank everyone for reading for the past year. If you wish to see that post, here it is.

Anyway, in that post I promised to make a special post in honor of the occasion. I threw three ideas at the wall and told you to wait until the end of the week to see said post. Unfortunately, not only was that post a no-show, I fell off the face of the earth the next week (yes, I went to Disney World again). So, yeah, it’s been over two weeks since then and I have nothing to show for it. Continue reading Why I’m No Longer Making an Anniversary Post

Update: To My New Followers (Plus a Poll)

Greetings peeps!

(Yep, that’s how I start all my updates just so you, know).

In the past couple weeks, I have been blessed in receiving many new followers. Many of you come from the same place and due to the same post. I guess you can say this was OM’s last inadvertent gift to me. Others may come from different places and due to other posts. Whatever the case may be, I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you guys officially and speak directly to you guys; let you know what I do here and let all my followers know what the plan is.

Since my farewell note to OM, I’ve gained more followers in two weeks than I could in a couple months. I don’t take such things for granted, so allow me to tell all 10 or so of you thanks for giving me that honor. So glad to have you all!

I go by the alias SBox180. I’ve been blogging for a little under a year, and I’m a teenage nerd from the United States. I opened a blog, because I love sharing my opinion on the things I love. I have a passion for entertainment, primarily video games, movies and television. I also talk about other entertainment mediums, such as music and literature. I address these topics in a variety of ways:

  • The SBox Soapbox is my segment for editorials and opinion pieces, usually based around a single issue or topic
  • An Analysis is where I take a single topic (e.g.: an upcoming movie) and thoroughly discuss it from all angles. I basically take the few details I’m dealt and attempt to predict and expand upon what the final product will be
  • SBox Recommends is my reviewing segment. Reviews are made with the idea that everything means something to anyone. That means, whether I like the subject or not, every review ends with me recommending the film to its appropriate audience
  • If I can’t discuss it in a way that fits those segments, I give a My Quick Thoughts or just My Thoughts on it. This is usually where I cover news or give mini-reviews
  • A new segment called Newcomer Chronicles details my attempt to get into a franchise or series that I’m new to. I try to describe what it’s like to experience a big and popular entity for the first time. What is it like to see a Star Wars movie or play a Zelda game for the first time? That’s what this segment is about

These are some of the posts I make here. I constantly try and find new ways to share the things I love with the world, so this is just the beginning.

I don’t have a consistent posting schedule at the moment. I used to, but for right now I just post as I go. At this time, because it’s summer, I tend to post about 1-2 posts per week. This may change depending on real life matters, but I try to let you know beforehand.

That’s pretty much all their is to me and my blog. Again, I would like to say welcome to all those new to site. Thank you for giving me that follow. If you ever want me to cover a particular topic, please let me know.

To celebrate the occassion, I want you all to pick the next SBox Recommends I do. I’ve seen a lot of movies the last month that I’ve intended to review. I’ll be covering most of them anyway, but I want you guys to decide which one I do first. A poll can be found at the top of this post. It’ll end a week after this post, so vote away!

This week, I’ll have one more post for you guys. I’ll try to put it up Friday so stay tuned.

Mini-Update: Nintendo Predictions/Smash Direct, Jurassic World & Whatnot

Greetings peeps!

There will be a slight change of plans as to my coverage of Nintendo at E3. Hopefully you all will prefer this method better.

Last week I began my “E3 Predictions Week” where I was to share my predictions on the Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo conferences which will begin showing tomorrow. I was able to get Microsoft and Sony posts up, the only one left to discuss was Nintendo. I had planned to get the post made by Saturday, but due to traveling and prior commitments I couldn’t get the post done.

Because of this I was about to spend all of today making a predictions post, but at this point I figure the idea of a predictions post would be meaningless seeing as we will see the show in a couple of days. Besides, today was the Super Smash Bros direct (which I did watch). I figured the best course of action is to just skip predictions for Nintendo since I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the Big 3’s shows anyway. I have a lot of posts to make this week given the time of year, and I figured this is a necessary cut.

To balance things out I am going to make a Quick Thoughts on the DLC pack that launched with the Super Smash Bros Direct similar to what I did with Mewtwo. As far as covering the actual event, I’ll be combining all of Nintendo’s activities this E3 into one post. This will be easier on me and for all of you. So thoughts on this show will be incorporated with my coverage of Nintendo’s conference Tuesday.

These cuts have a lot to do with the announcements that will be made outside the main 3 conferences that I can cover. For example, I’ll cover individual announcements from the EA, Bethesda, Ubisoft, and Square Enix conferences. But they also have to do with the Jurassic World review I want to make. It’ll be late, but I intend on making a review as soon as all the E3 coverage is done. Next week is when I want to post it.

Other then that, E3 has officially begun, and I’m as excited as many of you are. I can’t wait to share this time with this site for the first time. It’ll be fun.

Mini Update (4/1/15): Countdown Postponement and Other Plans

Greetings peeps!

This is a quick little update I’m doing to announce a couple of updates concerning the next couple of weeks on this blog. I have a well established plan for April that I think many will appreciate.

As you may know, the past three months I have been dedicating my blogging efforts to My 2014 Movie Countdown. This was meant to be done by the end of January 31, but has managed to drag itself out to now in April. This is a very fun thing for me to do, but it has unintentionally taken over the blog entirely. In the beginning of March, I promised to return to making regular posts on more than just movies, but that ended up not happening at all.

To fix this, I came up with an idea that will fix all of that. The 2014 Countdown will be on hold until midway into April. For the next few weeks I will be making posts on gaming, film, TV, etc. entirely. This way I can dedicate myself to blogging like I used to. In the meantime, I will work on the Top 5 posts and get have them posted one by one toward the end of the month.

For those who were waiting for the results of what is now the Top 5 2014 films, I’ll give you the order of the remaining coutndown films:

  • (#5) 300: Rise of an Empire
  • (#4) The Amazing Spider-Man 2
  • (#3) Interstellar
  • (#2) Guardians of the Galaxy
  • (#1) Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier

Hopefully this will suffice for now.

Lastly, this week you can expect at least one post which will be posted hopefully tomorrow. I won’t tell you what it is, but perhaps you can figure it out by the date. That Queen post will probably be up this weekend if possible. Otherwise, I’ll see about making a Biweekly Update this Sunday detailing a bit more about what’s to come.
