SBox Soapbox: Should The Simpsons Continue As a Movie Series After the Show Ends?

It’s so hard to believe it’s been a decade since our favorite family on television adopted the Spider-Pig, escaped to Alaska, saved Springfield from being destroyed at the hands of EPA, and discovered the treasure of Imaweiner. The Simpsons Movie was a huge success both financially and critically when it came out in 2007 and still stands out today as one of the best animated films of the 21st century. I know that latter statement is quite a big claim, but I stand by it. That movie was damn good with all the charm, wit, and borderline insanity you’d expect from The Simpsons show. Easily one of the best examples of how TV to film adaptations should be, and one I’d recommend to anyone.

So with that said, where’s the sequel? Continue reading SBox Soapbox: Should The Simpsons Continue As a Movie Series After the Show Ends?

SBox Quickie: A Deadpool Animated TV Show Is Coming!

deadpoolcartoon-995473-1280x0

Last year saw the release of Deadpool, one of the most unique superhero films in recent memory and an instantaneous hit for the house of X-Men. Through its unique blend of raunchy comedy, exciting violence, fourth-wall breaks, and chimichangas, Deadpool has won over the hearts of untold millions worldwide. It propelled Deadpool from a moderately known comic book character to a pop culture icon.

Nowadays, it’s commonplace to see Deadpool on shirts, games, hats, memes, and other memorabilia, along with a modest and somewhat watered-down presence on TV. Lately, Deadpool’s TV presence has been limited to Disney XD shows like Ultimate Spider-Man, which is nice other than it being a cameo on a G-rated show. If only there were a way to make Deadpool’s TV presence a little more… how would Deadpool put this?… Sexier. Yeah, let’s go with that!

Enter Donald Glover Continue reading SBox Quickie: A Deadpool Animated TV Show Is Coming!

SBox Quickie: Let’s Talk About Julia, Sesame Street’s Autistic Muppet

rs_1024x576-170320051118-1024-sesame-street-julia-autism-1-32017

Today is Autism Awareness Day once again, as well as Autism Awareness Month, a time dedicated to the recognition and discussion of this increasingly common neuro-type. In honor of this occasion, I’d like to briefly discuss a topic that, while not entirely new, does somewhat align with what I do here on this blog. That’s because it appears that autism will be visiting the most well known city block on television: Sesame Street. Fall 2016 TV Roundup (Big Bang Theory, Supernatural, Empire, The Flash & Supergirl)

I’ve been trying for years to get an idea like this off the ground, but this year I’m just gonna go for it. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a new biannual segment I like to call TV Roundup. Instead of covering certain TV shows individually come the end of their season/mid-season, I’ll just briefly give my thoughts on them all in one place. Hopefully, I can make this a regular thing which would come after the last episode of every show I watch has aired.

This Fall I saw a total of 5 shows regularly. There were a couple more I did watch, but I’ll just focus on the big ones I tuned into every week. I’ll go through each show individually and give my brief thoughts on each. And don’t worry. I’ll do my best to not spoil too much if you’re still a couple episodes behind. (Though some things I can’t help but spoil). Continue reading Fall 2016 TV Roundup (Big Bang Theory, Supernatural, Empire, The Flash & Supergirl)

Mini-Update: TV Round-Up Post Coming Soon!

So I just realized all my shows are official on break. Some come back next month. Others won’t be back until March. It was a pretty solid half-season all around, though, and I’m ready to give you guys my thoughts on all the shows I’ve watched this Fall: The Big Bang Theory, Supernatural, Empire, The Flash, and Supergirl.
In the meantime, this song from the Empire finale has been stuck in my head all day. I thought I’d share it with you guys while I get to writing. Happy listening!

I’m SBox180. Thanks for reading!

SBox Analyzes: The Flash Season 3 Predictions

flash-season-3-flashpoint-broken

Early this year during my winter break, I decided to finally take the plunge and delve into the DC Television Universe. I was putting it off for a while at the time as something I’d get to eventually, but one day boredom preceded me enough to put my procrastination aside. I took to Netflix that day to find a full season of The Flash waiting for me. Roughly three days later I emerged victorious, adding one more show to my watchlist. That was one hell for a binging session, one I’d recommend wholeheartedly to anyone who has a bit of time and a love of lighthearted, comedic action shows with somewhat of a villain of the week format. You won’t regret it.

As of right now we’re less than a weeks removed from the show’s prominent return with Season 3. Season 2 proved to be a great adventure in multidimensional awesomeness. It brought a ton of surprises and twists our way, introduced us to many new characters (as well as new versions of preexisting ones), and ultimately put the show’s core story in one hell of an interesting spot towards the end. Of course most people already know of Season 2’s jaw-dropping cliffhanger simply by the show’s title. If you somehow aren’t and plan to become a member of S.T.A.R. labs in the near or distant future, then make like the Flash and zoom out of here quickly, because this post will contain spoilers for Season 1 and 2. SBox Soapbox: Should The Big Bang Theory End After Season 10?

735839618

Last Thursday marked the end of yet another Big Bang Theory season leading up to what could be the show’s untimely end. The CBS sitcom which has remained on the air since September 2007 will reach the coveted 10 year mark come September 2016, a slam-dunk for not only show-runners Chuck Lorre, Bill Prady and Steven Molaro, but for the dedicated legion of fans whose dedication knows no bounds. The show has grown in this amount of time with half of the guys getting hitched and the other half not too far behind. It’s been a fun 9 years to say the least.

When CBS announced an optimistic three season order for the show, fans such as I rejoiced, finalizing that immortality is imminent for the gang of scientists (and Penny). Here’s the kicker, though. We’re about to reach that third preordered season with Season 10. Typically by now we’d hear word from either CBS, Lorre, the cast or somebody that the show has plans beyond Season 10. You’d actually assume that at least Season 11 was already preordered. It hasn’t.┬áSo what gives? Continue reading SBox Soapbox: Should The Big Bang Theory End After Season 10?

My 2015 Movies: Entourage (#18)

entourage-movie-poster-600

Up until a few months ago, the only person in my house who had seen the Entourage series was my dad. Once he saw that this movie was coming, he convinced me and my family to give the show a try. We ended up marathoning the show in a little over a month. Literally, we saw this movie right after we saw the series finale. Sure it got mixed to negative buzz, but we were to into the show to care. And we ended up walking out with a smile on our faces and an heir of satisfaction. Continue reading My 2015 Movies: Entourage (#18)

My 2015 Movies: The SpongeBob Movie – Sponge Out of Water (#21)

As a kid, I was a huge fan of SponegBob, and I still am to an extent today. Like many people my age and older, my favorite episodes came from the first four seasons which really hold up. People give the new seasons a hard time for extremely valid reasons, but it’s still possible to find diamonds in the rough. Unfortunately, you’ll have to sit through the other 90% of constant slapstick and toilet humor to get there. The current state of SponegBob made me eerie of sitting through a second movie. I did end up seeing it out of curiosity, and rejoiced in the fact that this movie was as good as it was. Continue reading My 2015 Movies: The SpongeBob Movie – Sponge Out of Water (#21)

SBox Recommends: Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll (Season 1 Review)

Note: SBR never spoils.

I’ve made it a habit to try and pick up a new show every year. Sometimes it’s not the easiest thing to do, but someone has to be first witness to what could be the next TV sensation. One day, while watching South Park a commercial for a new FX show caught my eye. For one, I recognized one of the main stars from another show. And as a guy into rock music, the theme and musical choice was compelling. Empire satisfies my love of R&B, so maybe this will do the same for my love of rock.
