Analysis: The Big Bang Theory Season 9 Predictions

“So Golum, you’re an expert on spoilers. What should I do with these ones?”

We’ll analyze them, of course. It’s that time of year again. The end of the quiet TV summer season is near. This time next month, everyone’s favorite sitcom about nerds is coming back for its ninth season. And while it’s common to say the previous season’s finale was among the craziest one said show ever had, Big Bang Theory’s Season 8 finale was sincerely the craziest finale I’ve seen in a while. It’ll be hard to top that one.

Before we return to Chuck Lorre’s Pasadena on September 21, we have quite a lot of information already released about the next season. Some of them are rumors, but some could be accurate. Today let’s weed through these leaks and discuss their accuracy.

Somewhat similar to last year’s predictions post, I’ll be covering each character separately. I’ll clump some together if I have something similar to say about each.

Note: Season 9’s premiere episode will take place a couple hours after Season 8’s finale. The synopsis for the premiere episode is that Penny and Leonard reach Las Vegas. Everyone gathers at the Wolowitz’s house to view the wedding online where Sheldon confronts Amy about their relationship status.

Amy

Based on what we know so far, this season may be all about Amy. After all, she was the one that set the biggest shocker during Season 8’s finale. But it’s also because she’s the only character who appears to have an established arc so far.

To refresh your memory, following their dating anniversary where the always oblivious Sheldon screwed up during their date, Amy breaks up with Sheldon; more accurately she needs space to find herself.

We’ve learned a couple things regarding where she goes from here. She will pursue other men for example. This suggests that the break up won’t be resolved quickly. The only way to suggest otherwise is if Amy was already cheating on Sheldon which is hard to believe.

How long will it take for Amy to find new love is hard to say. Perhaps she never finds someone longstanding and jumps from partner to partner. I do see them making an episode based entirely on Amy finding a date, though. A quick theory that comes to my mind is maybe Stuart becomes Amy’s new boyfriend. They have dated before, after all. Who knows?

It’s also said that Season 9 will feature flashbacks which will go further into Amy’s backstory. This is something very fascinating, especially since she’s one of the characters we know the least about. We’ve heard hints here and there over the years. The mother was very conservative and therefore so was she. She had no friends and even less social skills. Remember, there was a time when Amy was just like Sheldon, but she grew to become the Amy we know today. A revisitation of that will be interesting.

Sheldon

As previously mentioned, Sheldon was dumped by Amy during the finale. However, this was made even more tragic by the fact that Sheldon had planned to propose to her that very instant. (Refer to the above quote and replace “spoilers” with “rings”).

Sheldon will have a lot to do this season, but its often very difficult to predict his actions. We still have to question how he’s taking the whole situation. A potentially funny concept is if Sheldon doesn’t know he’s been dumped since Amy didn’t use the exact words. He then formulates a new proposal plan. Unfortunately, the synopsis doesn’t point in that direction. He’ll most likely have a slow reaction to it which will build with each episode. In Season 4, Sheldon dealt with not being friends with Amy by buying a bunch of cats. It’s easy to say this may devastate him. Either way, he’ll be oblivious as to why.

It’s been confirmed that we’ll find out where he got the ring in the premiere episode, most likely by telling Howard, Bernadette or Raj. The question I have is if he’ll use it anytime during the season. Obviously the first episode present the best oppurtunity which will most likely end in rejection. That doesn’t rule out that Sheldon won’t fight for her, and against any guy Amy ends up dating. Perhaps they’ll get engaged during the Season 9 finale.

Leonard

And now for cliffhanger #2, where Leonard and Penny drive to Vegas to get married. Suddenly, Leonard reveals to Penny that he drunkebly kissed another girl during Season 6’s North Sea expedition. Will they make it to the altar?

It seems like they will. The first episode has a gathering to view the wedding so it will probably take place. Plus, a man in his 50’s was casted for an unspecified role that’s almost guaranteed to be a priest. Whether they get that knot officially tied is the real question.

I’ll go with no. I see a big chunk of the episode being a debate among Leonard and Penny as to whether to officially do this that eventually ends with either a postponement or break-up- and I lean more toward postponement. Or perhaps they will complete the ceremony and annul it later.

Interestingly, we’ll actually meet this mystery girl in the second episode. She’ll be played by actress Melissa Tang, who you may know as an extra on various sitcoms. But, why?

Leonard may seek her out in order to show Penny that the kiss didn’t mean anything. Maybe Penny may want to confront her. Maybe this woman seeks Leonard out, which could be interesting. Wouldn’t it be insane if she comes to Leonard’s door saying ‘I’m pregnant”?… Or there could be other reasons.

My theory is that Tang appears in a flashback. For it to be any other way sounds unnecessary, but that’s just me.

Penny

I separarted Leonard and Penny’s sections because of one rumor pertaining only to Penny. I’m hearing a great noise that we’ll finally be finding out her last name. If that’s true, that’s awesome! But there are people taking this to mean something else.

Rumors are pointing to the idea that Penny is actually related to someone in the main cast. This gives a good reason why Penny’s last name was never specified, and this revelation could be a major setback to Leonard and Penny’s marriage.

I’ll admit that this is a creative theory pertaining to the series’ biggest secret. Do I believe it? No. It’s a bit too outlandish in my mind, especially depending on who she’d supposedly be related to. I’d put my money on Sheldon as it makes the most sense. If it’s Leonard, the show officially jumps the shark. In fact, this is all starting to sound like creepy fan fiction.

So, I think Penny’s name will remain a mystery. Think about it this way. We may not know the last name, but do you know who does? Leonard! And he’d catch something like this very quickly.

Raj

There are no Raj related rumors, so this is pure guesswork. We last saw Raj with Emily as he reluctantly agreed to have sex with her at a graveyard. He suddenly decides to try breaking it off, but gets cold feet.

Will this relationship last through next season? I’m leaning toward yes. I’m totally willing to believe that Raj will break up with Emily sometime throughout the season, but it’ll take a long time. Besides, I don’t see Raj getting any better of a match than Emily. Just to build up another girlfriend for Raj will be too difficult.

Howard, Bernadette & Stuart

Finally, we combine our remaining cast members. Howard and Bernadette are now living at Mrs. Wolowitz’ house, and can’t shake their permanent house guest, Stuart. When they tried kicking him out last season, they got suckered in by those pesky emotions.

As I said in Amy’s section, I have a slight theory that Stuart will be Amy’s new boyfriend. That way Amy finds a love for Sheldon to battle, and Stuart can move out of the Wolowitz place. Amy always wanted someone to move in with her. Stuart has nowhere to go. It’s perfect!

Otherwise, I see Stuart being kicked out within the first five episodes until ultimately living with Raj or getting his own place to live. If Leonard and Penny move in together next season, I can also see Stuart living with Sheldon. That way Sheldon won’t have to live alone, and Stuart- who will totally put up with Sheldon’s antics for shelter- has a place to stay. Really anything can happen.

SBox Soapbox: Supernatural Season 10 Predictions

Supernatural is going on 10 seasons already. Feels like only half of that at this time, but we’re about to go on our 10th year with the Winchester brothers October 7. I’m absolutely excited to see where the hell they go from that crazy cliffhanger back in Season 9. We have a lot to look forward to from the answers to questions, to the 200th episode, to the debut of a new character.

I feel it necessary to look at what we know now and make some predictions as to what Season 10 will provide. With the recent reveals shown especially at Comic Con, I think there’s plenty to discuss.

Just as a word of warning: This contains spoilers. I implore you that if you have not watched up to Season 9’s finale, start catching up as soon as possible, and don’t come back to this post until you do. And get on the show if you haven’t already! This is a show I’d recommend to anybody. But just to be clear, there will be spoilers in this discussion. You’ve been warned.

The way we’ll go about this is to dissect plot-points we are currently left pondering over, one-by-one.

Sam’s new bounty

It’s a Supernatural tradition for one of the brothers to be left searching for the other, saving the other, worrying about the other, or avenging the other. This season is Dean’s turn, who we’ll get to later. There is a major difference this time around, because from what we know so far, we’re going to not be seeing the two together for a long-while. I’m guessing it’ll take up half the season, perhaps even 3/4.

A lot of the season is going to be just Sam trying to change Dean back to normal, while also having to fight against him; he is a demon now after all. This will probably be the most difficult rescue ever. The status quo for taking care of demons is to exorcise them. That’s kind of hard to do now when Dean now IS the demon. We only once saw proof that you can cure a demon when in Season 8 they almost made Crowley human. That’s why we had Crowley addicted to human blood last season. But even that wasn’t easy.

That’s why this time we are going to find Sam in a position of lonely obsession. We saw last season that Sam took a very harsh stance on their relationship, practically even saying they now work as partners and not brothers. It will be an interesting turn in character to see Sam eat his words and swallow his pride as he goes all out to save his borther (again).

Actually when you think about it, Dean has saved Sam more than a dozen times, but Sam would only try to do so. Dean would get himself out of his own situations with the exception of when Castiel plucked him out of hell. Sam tried to save Dean out of hell, but no one would deal with him. And once Dean went to Purgatory, Sam kind of gave up and retired. You can make the argument that in the Season 5 finale, Sam managed to take control of himself while possessed by Lucifer, and saved Dean before Lucifer can make the killing blow. You can also argue that the 2 saved each other plenty of times just on the job.

However, in terms of end of season experiences, this will be the first time Sam saves Dean, if he can even do that.

Despicable Dean

This was the most shocking part of the season finale. Dean Winchester, one of the most notorious demon hunters in the world, now is a demon converted by the mark of Cain.

According to what we’re told, the Dean we’ll be seeing is pretty much similar to soulless Sam. The only differences are that Dean’s more powerful, more evil, and more angry. Jensen Ackles (who plays Dean) has stated in an interview that in the first few days of shooting the season, he had already been in four fist-fights. Dean ain’t playing around this season. It’s also established that Dean will naturally develop a stronger relationship with Crowley. For the most part, though, he’s flying solo.

What will he be doing. Well Jeremy Carver specifically pointed out karaoke. His character this season was basically summed up by Ackles as “a lot of physicality, a lot of booze, a lot of babes”. You know, basically Dean in a nutshell. I suspect there will be some alternate purpose for Dean. I’m not too sure what he’ll be doing on Earth as hell ain’t a good place to be even for demons. Will he take up a hobby? I hear tormenting the innocent is quite a popular activity among demons. It would be interesting and disturbing to see Dean become the very thing he hunted.

The only catch to my theory lies on how they handle the demonic Dean. Is it a case where Dean’s human side is killed entirely and he pretty much is full demon, or is the human side resurrected with the demon side? I’m going with the prior option, because of the description given.

It’s a theory that Dean may never be fully human again. He’ll probably reunite with Sam and the team with his new demon powers. In fact this is a theory made by some members of the cast. I do kinda like that idea, but doubt at this point that that’s the direction they’ll end up going with.

Amazing Grace

Last we saw of Castiel he just overthrew Metatron, stopped his ploy of becoming the new God, recovered the angel tablet, and regained a position as leader of the angels. Now all Cas has to do is reopen the gates of heaven and restore peace in heaven. This will solve the problem of the excess amount of angels and ghosts on Earth. Simple right?

Even if he can manage this feat, he still may not live to tell the tale. Cas has been lacking his grace since Metatron stole it in the Season 8 finale. Apparently when angels use another angel’s grace, you’ll slowly die. The only options he has is to cooperate with Metatron in order to find his original grace, find his grace himself when he doesn’t know where to start looking, or to steal another angel’s grace again. If not, he may just die.

From what we know, that’s not going to be Castiel’s priority this season. His priority is fixing Metatron’s mess. Though, the probability that Castiel won’t get his grace back is very slim if you ask me. Killing Castiel off entirely is just not going to work. He’s the Winchesters’ link to heaven, and a bit too popular to just let go.

I’m not too sure on when in the season he’ll accomplish this, but I am going to say it happens this season. It’s possible that he just kills another angel and takes their grace to allow Cas to live longer, too. That would be a very interesting conflict of character in that case.

There will be song

The 200th episode is occurring early in the season. And it was already announced that the episode will be musical-ish. They say it’s basically going to be the Supernatural version of a musical. Plus, there will be appearances from almost every character from all 10 years of the season, which is interesting. They call it a love letter to the fans.

I think the musical concept is brilliant. I only recall 2 or 3 times I heard Sam and Dean sing. I can’t wait to see them have like some singing duel or something.

What gets me is the concept of every character from the show being in it. That’s not only a tall order, but difficult to pull off. I mean, most of the main-stays from seasons’ past are dead. So will the concept involve the ghosts of all those characters? Even that wouldn’t include everybody because angel and demon characters don’t become ghosts when they die. Maybe this episode will occur in one of the brother’s head.

The new character

Yes, a new character will be introduced this season. The only hint given was that this character was mentioned since the beginning, but never actually seen. They also give the detail that he or she will take an interest in Dean’s future.

Maybe I have too little recollection of Season 1, but it beats me. There’s no clear answer to this one to me. However, my guess: God.

Come on, it’s about time! We’ve been talking about a God cameo since Season 5. And I guess he’s been discussed multiple times even before Castiel was introduced, but the first time I heard them discuss God was in Season 2’s finale. Far fetched I know, but it could happen.

Another guess is Jesus, because he is also notably absent even in mentioning.

And those are my predictions for Supernatural’s 10th season. Let me know in the comments if you agree or not, or if you have you’re own thoughts on what can happen in the show.

Supernatural come back on Tuesday, October 7.

Analysis: Big Bang Theory Season 8 Predictions

Our whole universe was just a hot, dense space. Then nearly 14 billion years ago… You know the rest.

The Big Bang Theory is one of my favorite shows and one that I never get tired of watching. It’s combination of a modern TV-14 sitcom, scientific intellect and geek culture makes this show stand out. It’s a show I think anyone and everyone should at least try, because it truly is a gem when you get into it.

Season 8 of the Big Bang Theory premieres September 22 on CBS. However, since we are in the middle of the show’s break, we are starting to uncover rumors and even leaks for the upcoming season. And given all the crap that hit the fan during the Season 7 finale, I’m sure everyone is wondering where our favorite physicists go from here. So today, we’ll dissect what we know and predict them accordingly.

It should be noted that they will kick off Season 8 with a 2-part episode, potentially calling toward something special. Also, things can and probably will be elaborated during Comic Con’s Big Bang Theory panel. If new information develops, I’ll cover it later.

Penny and Leonard’s Wedding

Well we all know this is going to happen next season. It’s what a lot of us have been anticipating, and will probably be the central story arc of the season. The question seems to be “When?”.

Some are predicting it to take place in the season’s beginning, and others say the end. Given that we’re starting with an hour event this time around, I see where that first argument comes from. I say our safest bet is toward the end, because comments particularly from Kayley Cuoco imply that a chunk of the season will be spent planning the wedding. Besides, Howard and Bernadette’s Wedding ended that respective season. It could also take place midseason, though.

Penny’s Mom

Maybe we’ll finally learn Penny’s last name after all. Penny’s mother would make sense coming in now for the wedding. But that’s not the best part of this announcement.

Rumor has it that Lisa Kudrow (known as Phoebe from Friends) will play this part. If that holds true, this is ideal casting that I’m all over. She’s a hilarious actress, especially in terms of sitcoms. Plus, she’s making a pretty good comeback lately. (She was one of the highlights in Neighbors). It would make sense for her to be casted, and I can’t wait to see her if this holds true.

Stuart and the Comic Book Store

No one is talking about this one and I don’t know why. There’s no leak as far as I know, either.

Stuart is becoming a rather main character in recent seasons, so I’m interested to see how living with Raj will affect his popularity thereafter. Plus, he has a story arc being the caretaker of Howard’s mother.

One thing I’m incredibly curious about is the Comic book store. To see such a signature location of the show burnt down is kind of heart-breaking. Can it be rebuilt? Possibly. I’ll refer to a recent episode that shows Stuart highly-successful rival (played by Josh Peck if you recall). Maybe Stewart can take over that store. Hell, wouldn’t it be great to see actual good news happen to Stuart?

Raj and Emily

Here’s another one no one talks about, though I do say why. It’s just a straightforward event from the season. What will be interesting to see is whether this relationship will last through the next season.

Emily is a good character and it would be cool to see her be a permanent addition to the series. Raj is also a character in desperate need for a companion, as he is the only one of the 4 guys that is single. They seem to have good chemistry and I’d like to see them stay together.

There is a chance Emily and Raj could break up. Between Raj having a new girlfriend and a new roommate, anything can happen with him.

Sheldon Boldly Goes

And now for the biggest buzz for this season. As a result of Sheldon’s leaving to be on his own, many are saying and fearing that Shedon is gone for good.

I’m going to safely say: No he’s not!

I’ll admit that it would be a very interesting concept if they went that way, but it makes no sense to do so. Sheldon Cooper is the most profitable character on the show. He’s the one on all the T-shirts, has most of the big lines, and is the first thing everyone thinks of when you hear the show’s name. Jim Parsons not only confirmed that he will be in Season 8, but is currently renegotiating his contract with CBS where he may be receiving $1 million per episode. He’s not going anywhere.

The way I see this happening is that Sheldon disappears for the first couple of episodes and returns soon after. Or he can have a separate story arc for the first half of the season, then return. It makes no sense to get rid of him entirely. Besides, that’s a theme with these season cliffhangers. Someone leaves and returns all the time. Howard went to space, all 4 went to Antarctica, and Leonard went on an expedition. Just as they came back eventually, so will Sheldon.

Now that I’m done with my predictions, what are yours? Do you agree on any of these points, or feel a bit differently. Was there anything I missed that you want me to elaborate on? Are you excited about the new season? Let me know  in the comments, and we can discuss things.
