Well folks, allow me to be the one millionth person to tell you “Happy New Year” as we ring in the new and exciting year of 2019. That’s right! The final year of the decade is now upon us, and as the decade comes to an eventual close, we draw our attention to the year we now find ourselves in and some of the many things to look forward to. Both the grand adventures we’ll embark on in our real lives as well as on the big screen. That’s right!
With no shortage of major and minor releases coming at us over the next 52 weeks of life, film fans will definitely have their hands full this year. So, whether you’re into superhero films, dramas, horror flicks, or comedies, be sure to fill that new calendar of yours with some of the new releases of 2019. Welcome back, all ye peeps, to the third installment of the 2017 Movie Countdown (or, if you prefer the longer title, The Ranting SBox’s Annual Movie Countdown [2017 Edition]). For those of you just joining us, this is Part 3 of a 4 part miniseries where I gather all the 36 movies I saw in the year 2017 and rank them from worst to best, discussing each as I go. This has been a tradition of mine for the past 4 years, and may I’m having a blast making these posts so far. Over the weekend, Disney fans everywhere were treated to an onslaught of news, trailers, and info as the company held the fifth ever D23 expo. A biennial convention dedicated exclusively for all things Disney, the convention has become a coveted tradition for Disnerds, Pixar-tards, Marvel maniacs, and Star Wars geeks to get the down-low on upcoming Disney movies. And those who attend the convention in Anahiem get to experience much more with exclusive products, panels, events, and even… exclusive footage… Huh, so that’s what jealousy feels like.
Normally I don’t pay much attention to D23, but upon learning about it 2 years ago I decided to actually keep my ear to the ground this time. I’m very glad I did, too, because I left the convention period with so much joy and anticipation that I simply have to share it with you guys! Our first animated Disney film of the countdown, Inside Out was and is a big movie with a lot of hype and now an Oscar nomination that, let’s be honest, it’s going to win. This year was odd in that we got two Pixar films and no in-house Disney animated film. Nonetheless, this gave Pixar full reign of the Disney mantle for the year, and they did a pretty good job keeping momentum. Continue reading My 2015 Movies: Inside Out (#22)
The film industry had a very busy and important year in 2014. Major deaths, major hackings, and major headaches a plenty. However, from a quality standpoint, 2014 pulled through. With 2014 being one of the greatest years for major releases, 2015 may seem to be hard to beat. However, there is a lot to look forward to in the coming year.
