First thing’s first. Since we’re talking about Guardians of the Galaxy, I’d like to quickly divert your attention to this post I made all the way back in 2014… I never did make that review, which was a huge regret of mine for years now. So, in a weird way I’m really glad I get to at least fulfill that old promise by reviewing its brother 3 years later.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that I was extremely excited for this movie. Not only is this the sequel to one of my favorite movies of the past decade, but this film also marks one measly year until our favorite Bunch of Jackasses finally meet Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers 3. But I’m getting ahead of myself. I’ve been so invested in the trailers and news surrounding the film; my mind racing with what this film would be about and how it’ll try to match the surprise hit that was the first Guardians of the Galaxy. Did it succeed in doing that, or did it just fall short of greatness? Only one way to find out. Continue reading SBox Recommends: Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 (Movie Review)
If you were to ask me how 2016 stacked up to previous years in terms of films, I’d probably define it as “underwhelming”. It was an odd year for big budget movies, where most of the year’s most anticipated films ended up disappointing audiences, as was the case with Batman v Superman, Ghostbusters, Independence Day 2 and Jason Bourne among others. Meanwhile, the best films of the year existed below the surface, often raking in middling returns and going unnoticed — such is the fate of The Nice Guys and Kubo and the Two Strings. I enjoyed a lot of films in 2016 (as you’ll see in the 2016 Movie Countdown), but for what it’s worth, I’m hoping 2017 is a lot better.
As is tradition here on The Ranting SBox, I start every year with a list of my most anticipated films of the new year. Continue reading SBox Soapbox: My Most Anticipated Movies of 2017
It broke my heart back in July when I heard that the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer was being shown for attendees of San Diego Comic Con, and I wasn’t able to see it. (Damn you SDCC exclusives)! Keep in mind that I’m a huge fan of both Spider-Man and the MCU, so I couldn’t wait to see how Sony and Marvel planned on taking the web-slinger now that he’s been officially inducted into the MCU. I along with everyone who saw Captain America: Civil War fell in love with how he was portrayed in that film, but can this new Spidey stand on his own as a contributing member of the universe?
