Over the weekend, Disney fans everywhere were treated to an onslaught of news, trailers, and info as the company held the fifth ever D23 expo. A biennial convention dedicated exclusively for all things Disney, the convention has become a coveted tradition for Disnerds, Pixar-tards, Marvel maniacs, and Star Wars geeks to get the down-low on upcoming Disney movies. And those who attend the convention in Anahiem get to experience much more with exclusive products, panels, events, and even… exclusive footage… Huh, so that’s what jealousy feels like.
Normally I don’t pay much attention to D23, but upon learning about it 2 years ago I decided to actually keep my ear to the ground this time. I’m very glad I did, too, because I left the convention period with so much joy and anticipation that I simply have to share it with you guys! So here are some of the big news updates that stuck out to me and what I thought of them. Continue reading SBox Soapbox: D23 2017 News Round-Up
Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe hosts a great many characters in their movies, from Iron Man to Ant-Man to Spider-Man, not all Marvel characters are created equal. In fact, Marvel Studios has access to all but 3 of their biggest franchises’ film rights: Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool. Still, many fans of the Marvel characters and their films hope for a day when… you know what? Fuck it. This is part 3 of this series and I’ve started them nearly the same way every time. You get the point by now.
For those of you who are joining us for the first time, welcome! I’ve been going through all 3 of the Marvel properties owned by 20th Century FOX and discussing some of the ways Marvel Studios and Disney could go about hypothetically bringing these characters into the MCU. Continue reading SBox Soapbox: How Deadpool Can Fit Into the MCU
While the MCU is massive in terms of characters — Thor, Daredevil, Spider-Man, Black Panther, etc. — most fans know that the series is missing a few key characters. These characters — the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Deadpool — have been notably absent from the ever-growing Marvel film playground despite having a great amount of importance in the comics. This unfortunate reality has led many to hope for a day when these FOX-owned properties will be reunited with their friends over at Disney. But where could these characters fit if and when they do come back into the fray?
In this 3 part miniseries, I plan on tackling this question with each of the FOX-owned Marvel franchises, discussing some of the ways Marvel Studios could merge these characters into the MCU. Continue reading SBox Soapbox: How the X-Men Can Fit Into the MCU
Despite the Marvel Cinematic Universe hosting a massive line of characters — such as the Avengers, Defenders, Guardians of the Galaxy and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — there’s still a sense that the MCU is somewhat incomplete. It’s hard not to think that way when you compare the Marvel comics to what’s actually playing in theaters and notice the absence of 3 big franchises from the Avengers-canon: Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and X-Men. These 3 franchises make up the FOX/Marvel stable, the only characters Marvel and Disney lack access to in terms of film and television, much to the dismay of most fans who want to see the characters finally reunited on the big screen. Yesterday I was completely blind sighted by the teaser for The Avengers Project. It’s been less than 48 hours since I saw the less than one minute trailer, and yet my mind is still racing in regards of what this game will be. It’s funny what the mind can do with so little information isn’t it, but Square-Enix’s name alone is enough to make me hyped. After all, any opportunity to literally be an Avenger is one I’ll gladly take.
Currently there’s not a lot of information for me to cover or interpret. Perhaps at a future date I’ll make an Analysis of the trailer or something like that, but right now all I can do is make somewhat wild guesses as to what it’ll be. Though you know what Square-Enix game I can talk a bit about? Kingdom Hears III. Continue reading SBox Quickie: Marvel’s Kingdom Hearts Chances May Have Risen
Every year, including this one, my most anticipated film is always a Marvel film. Lord knows my family and I were super pumped for Avengers 2 considering Marvel’s cinematic winning streak since 2008. We couldn’t wait for this film. We even assigned each other Marvel character T-shirts for the occasion of watching the movie opening weekend. (I wore the Ultron short). And thank God this movie turned out to be just as awesome as we wanted it. Continue reading My 2015 Movies: Avengers – Age of Ultron (#6)
This was my most anticipated film of 2015. In a year that is chock filled with highly anticipated films- from Star Wars to Jurassic World to Fast and Furious– this was the movie I had my eye on. That’s because I’m a huge fan of Marvel’s line of movies and the first Avengers film. But with great hype comes a great amount of skepticism. The first Avengers film is a hard act to follow, let alone attempt to overtake. People still say that it’s the greatest comic book film ever. And that’s the chief question this time around: Is it better than the first one? As debatable as it is to say, I would say “yes”. Continue reading SBox Recommends: Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
Yesterday morning I was searching my phone during second period and saw the news I thought would never come. At long last Sony and Disney have made the deal of the year: Spider-Man will be added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I’m going to just place all other posting plans aside for now so I can focus on this one post. I’ve been saying I was going to post something on the subject since around August. I’ve yet to do so as you can see. Since then we’ve entered a speculation period prompted by the infamous Sony hack of 2014, where we learned that talks between Marvel and Sony have existed and continue to. Now that the information is official, it’s now or never to bring this up; and that’s what I’m going to do finally.

The film industry had a very busy and important year in 2014. Major deaths, major hackings, and major headaches a plenty. However, from a quality standpoint, 2014 pulled through. With 2014 being one of the greatest years for major releases, 2015 may seem to be hard to beat. However, there is a lot to look forward to in the coming year.
That’s why I’d like to share some of the movies I’m looking forward to most this year. These are in no particular order:

For almost a century, the motion picture has become a powerhouse of the entertainment industry. For all, a movie is an extremely popular and respected form of art. For some, watching a movie is a fun little pastime. For others, a film is an experience. For others still, its an activity they do every so often to pass the time. For me, it’s much more.
People watch their first movie in near instants after we exit the hospital from birth. What starts out as an enigma in a big black box that we can stare into would become a go-to activity for me. In my family, gathering around and watching a movie is our version of family bonding time. It’s always common to see movies where we are. Hell, we have 3 large bookshelves filled to the brim with DVD’s, Blu-Rays and VHS’s. It’s never exactly been just a hobby with us or for me. It’s the glue that brings us together. That’s why I have such a passion for film and owe a lot to the artform.
I’ve seen a lot of movies in my time. So many films of so many genres, eras, and qualities. And that’s why I want to count down my personal top 5 favorite films of all-time. This will be in commemoration of my 500th view which occurred Sunday afternoon. This will be a hard list to make, but I’ll try. So sit back and enjoy as I list them off.
