SBox Quickie: A Deadpool Animated TV Show Is Coming!

deadpoolcartoon-995473-1280x0

Last year saw the release of Deadpool, one of the most unique superhero films in recent memory and an instantaneous hit for the house of X-Men. Through its unique blend of raunchy comedy, exciting violence, fourth-wall breaks, and chimichangas, Deadpool has won over the hearts of untold millions worldwide. It propelled Deadpool from a moderately known comic book character to a pop culture icon.

Nowadays, it’s commonplace to see Deadpool on shirts, games, hats, memes, and other memorabilia, along with a modest and somewhat watered-down presence on TV. Lately, Deadpool’s TV presence has been limited to Disney 😄 shows like Ultimate Spider-Man, which is nice other than it being a cameo on a G-rated show. If only there were a way to make Deadpool’s TV presence a little more… how would Deadpool put this?… Sexier. Yeah, let’s go with that!

Enter Donald Glover Continue reading SBox Quickie: A Deadpool Animated TV Show Is Coming!

SBox Soapbox: Why I’m Conflicted About X-Men’s Future

xmen0003

A couple weeks ago, I got to see Logan on opening weekend. It was a movie I’ve been looking forward to since the first trailers came out, due to how promising the premise was and how stylistically different it seemed to be from other comic book movies up to this point. The idea was brilliant, and I’m so happy to report that the actual film didn’t disappoint in the slightest. Not only is it one of the most unique films in the X-Men series as well as the whole comic book subgenre; it may actually be among the best. I highly recommend the movie to just about everyone, especially to fans of the X-Men film series that’s been with us for nearly 17 years so far.

X-Men is an immensely impressive series all things considered. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and to an extent the DC Extended Universe) have been dominating the comic movie genre in recent years, X-Men has outlived just about every other such franchise thus far. Just think about how many adaptations its outlived: The Dark Knight, Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, Hellboy, Blade, Fantastic Four, and the list keeps going. SBox Analyzes: “Bohemian Rhapsody” (Upcoming Freddie Mercury movie)

Today marks a shocking 25 years since Freddie Mercury, lead singer of Queen, passed away at the age of 45. It’s deeply saddening to think about, but on this (ironic) Thanksgiving Day it’s important to think about the legacy Mercury was able to leave behind during his short 20 year career. A quarter-century later, listeners young and old still hear Freddie’s voice, whether it’s radio stations playing “Another One Bites the Dust”, sports stadiums playing “We Are the Champions, parties playing “We Will Rock You”, or movies playing “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Scholars still mark Freddie as one of the best singers of all-time as well as the best frontman in rock history. And if all goes well, his legacy may also be encapsulated by the next big biopic movie.

In honor of Freddie’s death, I’ve decided to resurrect a post I’ve been meaning to make for over two years. At the same time, this post will mark the return of a segment I haven’t done in well over a year, but have missed doing. Luckily for me, this subject has managed to remain relevant two years later as we’re still wondering what will become of this movie. Welcome back to SBox Analyzes where we’ll be discussing the yet to be released Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody. We’ll round up all the rumors and facts we know about the project and use it to predict how the final product will turn out. The things we don’t know, we’ll simply predict. SBox Recommends: The Peanuts Movie (Movie Review)

Note: SBR never spoils. You are safe!

I didn’t know what to think when I first saw the trailer to The Peanuts Movie. Off the bat I knew the art-style was a fantastic fit for this kind of property. That and Peanuts is so beloved and classic that no bad film could possibly ruin it. However, you have to be prepared for the possibility that this could flop hard. It’s one of those movies that are hard to get a gauge on unless you see it first. You can’t just tell if it’s going to be good from the trailers.

So with little to do and nothing to lose I went on opening day to a nearly empty theater to see it. It’s incredible how in just the first couple minutes all my worries disappeared.

SBox Recommends: Fantastic Four (Movie Review)

Note: SBox Recommends never spoils!

From one of its grandest highs with X-Men Days of Future Past, 20th Century Fox produced one its more depressing lows with their most recent Fantastic Four movie. No one was more depressed as me on Thursday when I heard the outcry from critics. I was rooting for this one to finally be the Fantastic Four movie we all can agree was good. (I say this because I’m among the few that actually liked the previous two films). Alas, this movie was not doing well with critics and audiences.

Despite that, I decided to see it anyway. Me and my family are big fans of Marvel movies whether it be from Disney, Sony or Fox. Something just told us that, no matter what everyone is saying, this was just something we had to see for ourselves. Having now seen the film, I think we’re all in agreement that this wasn’t great. Whether it was bad was where we started having our differences. Continue reading SBox Recommends: Fantastic Four (Movie Review)

My 2014 Movies: X-Men Days of Future Past (#9)

Marvel has been hitting their films out of the park in recent years. That’s why I have no guilt with placing every single Marvel outing from 2014 into the top 10 of this countdown. Let’s begin with one of the few franchises that are no part of the MCU as of right now. While it can be said that the X-Men franchise has had a rockier road compared to other Marvel franchises, I’m glad to say that this is probably the best X-Men film ever made.

X-Men: Days of Future Past acts both as a sequel to First Class and a futuristic reimagining of the original X-Men trilogy. (It’s very hard to explain). Continue reading My 2014 Movies: X-Men Days of Future Past (#9)
