Intro to 2016 Movie Countdown

I’d like to welcome one and all to the year 2017 and to The Ranting SBox’s 2016 Movie Countdown. This is my third annual countdown event where I take every film I saw in the previous year and rank them from worst to best. Instead of making one simple post with a Top 10 or 5 of the year, I that with all the films I see in a given year I’d just cover all of them in mini-review format.

This year marks a first for The Ranting SBox Annual Movie Countdown for three reasons. For one, this countdown will contain a massive 44 films — the most in any countdown so far. This year also marks the first time I’ll have to do something I never thought I would. See, I actually saw 45 films this year. However, I decided to exclude one film, Kevin Hart: What Now?, from the list. That film is much more a comedy special than a cohesive movie, making it a bit too hard to integrate into this countdown. So, I’m removing it from the running. If you would like to hear my thoughts on that film, check out my full review here.

This will also be the first movie countdown to take place on two platforms: WordPress and So to the Creators/Moviepilot crew, glad to have you guys aboard. Welcome to the club.

Below is the complete list of films I’ll be covering during the countdown. This is not the final order, but the order in which each film was released. As I cover each film, I’ll provide a link to that film’s entry; so check back often if you’re looking for a specific film to be covered.

I typically allow one week penance for me to add any last minute films to the list, which usually causes the list to grow by 1 or 2. I doubt that’ll happen this year, but if you see the list growing or notice a change in the title’s numbering, you know what happened.

I’ve taken precautions this year to make sure this doesn’t leak into May like it has the past two times. I currently have several entries all ready to go and scheduled for release, with more entries being written as we speak. I’ll try to get as many done by January 11th as possible, before classes get in the way. You’ll notice that entries are going to be much shorter than prior years. That’s to save time and allow more film entries to be added.

As for how long I plan to go, my hope is to be done this countdown sometime in February. We’ll see if I can make that happen, but if not, at least I’ll have some fun while it lasts.

Hope you guys enjoy my little recap of the year in film. There will still be other posts made alongside the countdown, but this will be the bulk of my content for at least this month. Stay tuned for other gaming, movie and TV related content to come.

I’m SBox180. Thanks for reading!
